A split cake wedding

This weekend I was honoured to be asked to create a wedding cake for one of my best friends who I've known since we were 3! Her new husband loves Yoshi from Mario Brothers, and Clare is slightly more classic. We had lots of fun creating something that both of them wanted, so we came up with the split cake. This idea is becoming quite popular and is a great way of bringing the groom into the cake as much as the bride. If you don't have the budget for a grooms cake separate to the wedding cake, then this is a great compromise. 

I loved making this cake, not only because of the originality of it, but also, there was no room for mistakes as there was no back and front. 

The top tier was Red Velvet cheesecake which was to die for I have to admit. The middle tier was a chocolate sponge with chocolate Italian Meringue Buttercream served with a berry compote and the base tier was lemon with lemon Italian Meringue Buttercream.
